Mesquite Police Chief Troy Tanner said police surrounded and entered the single-family home where 64-year-old Stephen Paddock lived with Danley early on Monday morning. He said Danley was not at the house and police saw “no movement“ inside before serving a search warrant at the one-story, three-bedroom home in the Sun City Mesquite retirement community, about 80 miles north of Las Vegas.
Tanner said detectives from Las Vegas and North Las Vegas were at the scene in the resort community of Mesquite, located near the Arizona state line.
Police had located two cars that belonged to the suspect.
The suspected shooter's brother, Eric Paddock, said the family was stunned by the news. “We have no idea. We're horrified. We're bewildered and our condolences go out to the victims,“ Eric Paddock said in a brief telephone interview, his voice trembling. “We have no idea in the world.“
Police identified the gunman as area resident Stephen Paddock, 64, and said they had no information yet about his motive. He was not believed to be connected to any militant group, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told the media.
