It's an annoyance many of us are familiar with: the escalator suddenly stops working and everyone has to climb the steps.

 On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia's King Salman, who is known for travelling in style, experienced it when the golden escalator he uses to descend from his plane malfunctioned. The incident happened at Moscow's Vnukovo-2 airport.

 The escalator stopped midway, forcing the 81-year-old monarch to walk down. King Salman is on a landmark visit to Russia. It is the first trip to Russia by a Saudi monarch.

 His delegation of 1,000 people occupied all the available hotel rooms in five-star hotels around the Kremlin, including one entire hotel, reports said.
