While on the one hand, people were aware of freedom from the mass movement of Gandhiji and on the other hand, the Independent Hind Fauj of Subhash Chandra Bose had put the British in his nose. In the year 1945, at the time of the end of World War II, the financial condition of the British had worsened.
At the same time, the Labor Party victory in the British elections in the year 1945 eased the path of India's independence, because it was also meant to liberate other English colonies like India in their manifesto. There were many differences and rumors about this, but after this, the talk of Indian leaders started with Lord Wavell. In February 1947, Lord Mountbatten was chosen as the last viceroy of India and at the same time he was given the responsibility that India got independence in systematic way.

The reason for choosing the date of 15 August was that Lord Mountbatten considered the August 15 auspicious as the Japanese Army surrendered on August 15, 1945 at the time of World War II and at that time Lord Mountbatten was the Commander of Allied Forces.
Why time is 12 o'clock
When Lord Mountbatten changed the date of independence from June 3, 1948 to August 15, 1947, the astrologers of the country did not like this decision because they did not consider this date auspicious. He used to think that date was unpleasant and unholy. This led to Lord Mountbatten being told several other dates, but he remained firm on August 15.
After this the astrologers took a path of this. They set a time of 12 o'clock on the night of 14th and 15th August, because according to the British, the day begins at 12 AM but according to the Hindu calendar, on the sunrise.
